What Courses Should I Take, if I'm A Medical Assistant And Would Like To Work In The ER Or ICU?

So you want to work in the medical field where the action is heavier and the stakes are higher, but you need some more training. If you are thinking, "Im a Medical Assistant and i would like to work in the ER or ICU. What courses should i take?" The simple answer to your question is an ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) class and a PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) course. Because you are already a medical assistant you should have a number of the courses taken care of like the required CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) credential. If you do not, you will need that as well.


In order to receive your ACLS you will need to take the two day instruction and pass the test with no less than 80%. To receive your PALS certification you will need to take a 14 hour class and pass the test with greater than 83% accuracy. If you need your CNA it is a six week course.

All three courses cost an initial investment, but when you complete your instruction you will have access to a field that is exciting and fast paces. In addition to excitement working in the ER or ICU will pay more and provide greater opportunity for advancement. If you want to be where the action is, take the ACLS and the PALS.
