Medical Assistants Expected To Be In High Demand

Over 50% of all medical assistants find work in a doctor's office. The remainder find employment in hospitals, clinics and stand alone medical facilities.

A medical assistant is part of a professional staff. As one might expect, they work in facilities that are well-maintained and always kept clean. Multi-tasking and taking care of a large number of patients during their shift is par for the course. While most work a basic 40 hour week, unusual hours are the norm. Weekends, evenings and holidays may all be part of their work schedule.

Pay for the majority of full-time certified medical assistants tends to be in the moderate to low range. It does vary somewhat by experience and location.  On average, salaries for the average worker is about $30,000 per year. Part time or hourly employees can expect to earn around $15 per hour.

While salaries might not be very high, the vast majority of full-time employees receive medical coverage and some additional benefits.

This is a profession that is in high demand. Because of our aging population, the need for medical assistants is expected to grow at a rate much higher than other industries.

Not only is the population aging, but people are not taking care of their bodies as well as they should. The incidence of diabetes has been rising and obesity is at near crisis levels. The vast increase in patient loads will lead to more facilities being opened. This will create a big demand for medical assistants to staff those facilities.

Well-trained certified and accredited medical assistants will always be able to find a job.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this segment of the healthcare market will grow at one of the fastest rates of any industry over the next 10 years.
