Accredited cardiovascular technology programs teach you all that you need to know to become a cardiovascular technologist. In your career, you will diagnose blood vessel and heart problems with the direction of a supervising physician.
The amount of schooling that will be required of you depends on your qualifications and the area in which you are interested. If you are interested in receiving both noninvasive and invasive cardiology schooling, it could take longer than just focusing on one subject. Most people complete a 2-year program and get an associate degree. The 2-year program starts with general education requirements and then finishes with specialized subjects in the field you are going into. The four areas of practice that you can go into are Cardiology, Echocardiography, Electrocardiography, and Vascular technology.
In the first year you will take core courses. This is followed by the second year of school where you will receive specialized instruction in either noninvasive vascular technology, or noninvasive, invasive cardiovascular. Those who are qualified in the allied health profession need only to finish one year of specialized instruction.
People who graduate in programs that are accredited by the Joint Review Group on Education may be able to obtain certification in echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, Cardiographic techniques, and vascular ultrasound from Cardiovascular Credentialing International. Cardiac sonographers and vascular technologists can also receive certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
